The Crown finds its People’s Princess: Cambridge graduate wins role of Diana
IT is the question that has left every fan of The Crown guessing – who will play Princess Diana in the hit Netflix series?
But yesterday the blockbuster show’s creators announced they had cast unknown actress Emma Corrin as the Princess of Wales.
Miss Corrin, 23, whose only TV credit is one episode of ITV’s Grantchester, will star opposite Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles.
The actress recently graduated from Cambridge University where she was a committee member of the prestigious Marlowe Society – where stars such as Dame Emma Thompson and Sir Ian McKellen honed their craft.
She has already filmed a small role in the forthcoming film Misbehaviour, starring Keira Knightley and Keeley Hawes, about a group of women from the women’s liberation movement who seek to disrupt the 1970 Miss World beauty competition, set for release later this year.
The budding star has also shot scenes for forthcoming US TV show Pennyworth.
Miss Corrin, who attended the Charity work: Princess Diana £12,000- a- term Woldingham School for girls in Surrey Downs, said she would ‘strive to do justice’ to Diana and paid tribute to the ‘profound effect’ of the late princess’s work.
Her casting was confirmed on The Crown’s Twitter account and she will star in series four, due to begin filming later this year.
