Cut motoring costs... with a car that flies!
FLYING cars could be the future of travel, researchers said yesterday.
Their calculations show that aerial vehicles being developed by Airbus, Boeing, Nasa and other enterprises could be cheaper for journeys of more than 22 miles.
‘It was very surprising to see that vertical take-off and landing vehicles were competitive with regard to energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in certain scenarios,’ said Gregory Keoleian of the University of Michigan.
‘With full occupancy they could outperform ground-based cars.’
Dr Keoleian’s team, which used computer simulations to assess the merits of flying cars, pointed out however that most trips were shorter than 22 miles.
