OMAR SHARIF (1932-2015). The Rada-trained Egyptian actor, born Michel Shalhoub, was Oscar-nominated for his first English-language film, 1962’s Lawrence Of Arabia. Egypt threatened to strip him of his citizenshi­p when it emerged he was in a relationsh­ip with his Funny Girl co- star Barbra Streisand, a supporter of Israel. GEORGE ARLISS (1868-1946). The actor, known for wearing a monocle, was the first Briton to win an Oscar, for his title role in 1929’s Disraeli. The star of The Green Goddess and Alexander Hamilton once described himself during a court appearance as the world’s greatest living actor. ‘you see, I am on oath,’ he explained.
