Line of Duty star’s latest case... just who is pretending to be him online?
AS an anti- corruption officer in the scrupulous AC-12, he is used to sniffing out the truth.
But Line of Duty star Martin Compston is facing an unsettling mystery in real life too after someone created a fake Instagram account posing as him to lure in women.
The married actor, 34, discovered the account had been set up and was messaging female fans asking ‘for their details’.
Compston, who plays detective Steve Arnott on the hit crime series, wrote to his fans to warn them about the alleged ‘catfishing’ scam, saying it wasn’t him.
The actor, who married actress Tianna Flynn in 2016, said: ‘Hey troops this stuff is usually harmless but this fake account [ has] apparently been messaging a lot of my female followers for details. Obviously not me, thanks for people getting in touch to give me a heads up.’
It is not known how many women had been contacted by the fake account, but it is understood it has now been taken down.
The fifth series of Line of Duty began a fortnight ago, revealing the latest goings-on with AC-12 – a special unit charged with investigating corruption within the police force.
A record eight million watched the first episode, making it the most popular programme of the year so far – and the highest for a single episode of the BBC series since it started in 2012.
It was up 2.8million on the first episode of the fourth series, shown in March 2017.
