Third time lucky

MY MUM ensured I had all my childhood vaccinations and has the records to prove it. So imagine my horror on entering medical school when I was tested for the level of antibodies in response to my childhood injections and the results showed I wasn’t immune to measles, mumps or rubella.

Along with as many as 1 per cent of those who receive this vaccine, I had not produced a response to the injections. I received MMR a third time and tests showed I was immune at last.

How many other people think they are immune, but are not? We can no longer rely on ‘ herd immunity’ because not enough babies are being vaccinated due to the antivaxxers. If there is any doubt about your immunity status, I urge you to get checked by your GP. Dr ORLANDA ALLEN, London E14.
