(Well she would, wouldn’t she?)

IN vampish leopard print fur coat and mint green skirt, Ellie Bamber is transformed from her recent role as the innocent Cosette in Les Miserables.

The actress, 22, plays Sixties good-time girl Mandy RiceDavies in a BBC mini-series about the Profumo affair that rocked the government of Harold Macmillian.

The Trial Of Christine Keeler, which is expected to be screened next year, tells how Miss Rice-Davies and her friend Miss Keeler became embroiled in the sex scandal that led to the resignation of Conservative minister John Profumo. It features a court case in which Miss Rice-Davies, when told that a Tory peer denied having an affair with her or even having met her, famously replied: ‘Well he would, wouldn’t he?’

She and Miss Keeler were accused of being prostitutes but Miss Bamber said it is ‘time the truth came out’ about the Profumo affair.

‘They weren’t prostitutes... they were just two very, very young women who were totally manipulated,’ she told the Evening Standard.
