Rise of posh prams fuels leap in thefts
THE rise of the pushchair as a fashion accessory has fuelled a steep rise in thefts.
One in six parents of children under 12 say they have had a buggy stolen, according to a new study.
And luxury models are more at risk, with the average cost of a stolen pushchair at £487 and high-end brands such as Silver Cross, iCandy and Mamas and Papas more likely to be stolen.
Strollers costing up to £1,300 are often left outside supermarkets, cafes and nurseries and thousands disappear.
A survey of 2,000 mothers and fathers by Confused.com found that while 17 per cent said their pram had been stolen, 42 per cent did not report it to police.
