Taittinger Brut Reserve NV, £28 (normally £35), Tesco THIS is one of the best deals around from the big-name Champagne houses. The chardonnay-dominant blend is a classic, elegant to the core, with gorgeous lemon fruit and a hint of just-crushed biscuits.
WHITE WINE
Outlook Bay Chardonnay 2017, £6.99, Lidl FROM New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay region, this is a brilliant white with crunchy green-apple flavours and a light floral touch. There’s a dash of Pinot Gris, too. With this in your fridge, the outlook is good.
FOOD PAIRING: Grilled chicken.
RED WINE
Margan Barbera 2016, £14.95, Tanners MADE from the Barbera grape normally found in Piedmont, Italy, this gorgeous juicy red is, in fact, from Australia’s Hunter Valley. It’s packed with ripe blackcurrant and gentle spice. FOOD PAIRING: Roast lamb.
ROSÉ WINE
Taste The Difference Bordeaux Rosé 2017, £8, Sainsbury’s WITH rosé season now officially open, this pretty, pale wine from Bordeaux is just the thing to see it in. Made from the Merlot grape, it’s fresh with light redcurrant fruits and a twist of citrus.
FOOD PAIRING: Seafood pasta.
