Divorce on demand

-

THE Government has given in on calls for divorce on demand. Leftie lawyers who will make a fortune out of fees and anti-family agitators must be rubbing their hands at the prospect.

Once again, unelected shrill voices are driving a weak bunch of politicians down the road to chaos and disunity.

The welfare of children is touted as the excuse by the proponents, while the notion of responsible behaviour and sanctions against those who forget what marriage is for are trampled in the dirt.

A. SMITH, Yeovil, Somerset. LET’S put ourselves in the shoes of an abandoned spouse. The law, no guardian of morals, will now reward caprice, control, demand, divisiveness, entitlement, power imbalance, impatience, promise breaking and short-termism. Dr CHRISTOPHER SHELL,

Hounslow, W. London. WITH divorce on demand, surely it is time to replace marriage with a formal committed relationship contract more suitable for the modern age.

It could be an annual contract which, if not renewed, would cancel automatically upon expiry, just like a TV licence.

ANEURIN HUGHES, Treorchy, Mid Glamorgan. COULD we not apply the new divorce criteria to the Brexit negotiations? Irretrievable breakdown has obviously occurred, so it’s time to say goodbye. DAVID STEELE, Doncaster, S. Yorks.
