Tiger Roll vs Red Rum

-

MUCH is made of Tiger Roll and his historic second- in- a- row Grand National win, with comparisons to Red Rum.

However, the fences are much smaller than in Red Rum’s day. The danger, much like Formula One, has been reduced to the point where the race is almost unrecognisable. The reasons for doing so are understandable, but debatable.

Tiger Roll is a good horse, but if he had raced at Aintree over the original Grand National fences, he would have seen Red Rum’s rump disappearing into the far distance — if he had got round at all. PAUL CHARLES COOK,
