IT WAS at The Oval last summer that Alastair Cook enjoyed a golden farewell to internatio­nal cricket, with a century against India in the final Test of his recordbrea­king England career. So where better than the iconic south London venue for the former England captain — now Sir Alastair — to receive his Ian Wooldridge Award, voted on by Sportsmail readers, yesterday as the runaway winner of the 2018 prize. And who better than another England batting legend, Alec Stewart — now Surrey director of cricket — to present Cook with an award that commemorat­es our legendary former chief sports writer.
