Kane eyes rapid recovery

Harry Kane will do everything he can to lead england in the nations League finals and be fit for Tottenham if they reach the Champions League final.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino initially feared Kane’s season was over after he twisted his left ankle in a collision with Fabian Delph during the 1-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg win against Manchester City on Tuesday.

Spurs will know more about the extent of the ligament damage after a scan today.

Kane, 25, missed five weeks when he hurt the same ankle against Manchester United in January and the medical assessment yesterday was that he could be looking at around six weeks out.

‘Gutted to go off injured,’ said Kane yesterday on Twitter. ‘But every setback is a chance to come back stronger than ever.’

Kane has been cursed by ankle ligament injuries — his fifth in three years — and he has acquired a reputation as a quick healer, dedicated to doing whatever it takes to being back in action as soon as possible.

It is less than five weeks until the end of the Premier League season, and Tottenham have six games left as they fight for a top-four place. They finish the campaign at home to everton on May 12.

The Champions League final is a more realistic target three weeks later if Spurs are able to defend the lead in the second leg at City on Wednesday and then overcome either Juventus or ajax in a semi-final.

england’s nations League semi-final against Holland is five days later, on June 6.

Tottenham will put their faith in Son Heung-min to shoulder the goalscoring responsibilities, as he did with the winning goal against City on Tuesday.

It was Son’s 18th of the season for Spurs, including four in seven games in Kane’s absence in January and February.

‘everyone is counting on Sonny,’ said centre back Jan Vertonghen. ‘We won all our Premier League games without Harry and hopefully we can do it again.’
