For best meal in Preston, go to... Nando’s!

IT’S probably not what the organisers had in mind – but an awards night to celebrate the very best of Preston has seen top prizes handed to a Nando’s and Wetherspoon’s.

The chicken chain beat two independent eateries – Angelos and We Don’t Give a Fork – to be crowned restaurant of the year. Pub of the year went to Wetherspoon’s The Twelve Tellers, which triumphed over a student bar, The Adelphi, and craft pub Plug and Taps.

The Smiles Better awards, organised by the Preston Business Improvement District, were voted on by 68,000 members of the public. A spokesman stressed that half the winners were independents.
