WERE CITY’S STARS AS HONEST AS VAN DIJK?
WHY the fuss about Virgil van dijk voting for Raheem Sterling as his Player of the Year? It is well known that a player cannot vote for himself, or a team-mate, so at Liverpool the obvious candidates will play for Manchester City — and vice versa. In recent weeks, the case for Sterling has moved ahead of that for Sergio Aguero, so Van dijk is just being honest. One hopes City’s players responded with equivalent sincerity when casting their votes. It has always been a source of amusement that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo do not consider each other in the top three footballers each year, but hardly reflects well on either individual.
