Kim triumphs... in one-man election
IN the absence of any rivals and to the surprise of no one Kim Jong-un has been re-elected as leader of North Korea.
The Supreme People’s Assembly is thought to have unanimously backed him because of his ‘outstanding ideological and theoretical wisdom and experienced and seasoned leadership’, state-controlled media reported.
Kim, 35, the chairman of the ruling state affairs commission, was for the first time also referred to as ‘supreme representative of all the Korean people’.
President Donald Trump, who has had two summits with Kim to discuss halting his nuclear programme, said Washington would leave sanctions in place.
