Flown home after blood clot drama

Staysure sends paramedic to bring Colin back from Cyprus

-

WHEN you’re planning a sunshine break abroad, it’s so important to have good travel insurance in place.

Knowing your insurer will be with you as you step on the plane, check into the hotel and head off to explore, provides a vital safety net enabling you to relax and enjoy your well-deserved holiday.

Arguably the most important part of travel insurance is the medical cover it provides to pay for costly treatment and repatriation expenses, as Colin Bishop found out.

Colin, 76, loves to holiday in Greece — but this February was tempted by a three-weeks-for-the-price-of-two winter sun deal to Cyprus.

He touched down, settled in and started taking coach excursions to Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca, and to Paphos to view antiquities, while also meeting up with old friends who had moved there.

Next, he was planning an independent trip to Polis on the local bus network.

But this never happened, as Colin was admitted to hospital with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in both legs, staying in for several days after treatment was started to disperse the blood clots.

While he was recovering in hospital, Staysure’s emergency operations team swung into action, ringing for permission to contact his GP’s surgery and keeping in regular contact with him.

Team members Kat and Guilia first arranged for Colin to return to his hotel when ready, to rest for a few days until doctors deemed him fit to fly.

Then they deployed an Englishspeaking paramedic who flew out to Cyprus to accompany him back to Manchester, where an ambulance team would be waiting to take him home.

Colin says: ‘It was a great relief to know this was happening. It meant I could relax and enjoy my recuperation at the hotel, before I was repatriated on the first day that I was able to fly.’ He adds: ‘I am very happy to recommend Staysure, as my claim was settled with the minimum of fuss and I was repatriated very efficiently.

‘Friends and family have all been impressed by the care and assistance I received, and each wanted to know the name of my travel insurance company.

‘Thank you, Staysure, for all that your team has done for me.’ HAPPY CUSTOMERS STAYSURE’S Worth Doing Right ethos is based around the importance the company places on doing travel insurance the right way, to ensure customers don’t get caught out while on holiday.
