With Viburnum x bodnantense, remove around a third of the long basal stems, cut almost to ground level. The plants will produce new shoots from low down on the shrubs, which will form flower buds for next spring’s show. Forsythias behave the same way.

WINTER and early spring-flowering shrubs such as vigorous viburnums and forsythias can be pruned hard now.
