CAN BASEMENT BOYS AVOID HUMILIATION?
HUDDERSFIELD and Fulham may already be relegated, but with five games to play there are unwanted records to avoid. Fulham have conceded 76 goals this season — the most in a 38-game Premier League season is Derby’s 89 in 2007-08. Meanwhile, Huddersfield have only scored 19 times, with the fewest in a PL season being Derby’s 20 in that doomed campaign. In fact, if Huddersfield don’t score again they would face the ignominy of scoring the fewest goals in a season in the 130-year history of the English top flight!
PALACE TARGET RARE DOUBLE DOUBLE
IF Crystal Palace beat Manchester City tomorrow it will be the first time since 1972-73 that they have done the double over their opponents in the top flight. Not only this, but if Pep Guardiola’s team are defeated then the Spanish boss will have lost back-to-back away games for only the fifth time in his 11-year managerial career.
UNITED’S EUROPEAN HANGOVERS
MAN UTD face West Ham after losing to Barcelona on Wednesday. Alarmingly, the Red Devils are winless in their last four league matches following a European game (Man City, Southampton, Liverpool and Arsenal). A Hammers win would mean a first league double over United since 2006-07.
SPURS CAN THRIVE WITHOUT KANE
TOTTENHAM fans are understandably anxious about being without Harry Kane (left) as the season reaches its climax. However, the stats show there may be cause for optimism. New Year’s Day was the last time Tottenham won a league game in which Harry Kane scored — 102 days ago. Furthermore, since Kane broke into the team in 2014-15 Spurs’ win percentage without him playing is higher than with him! First up, Huddersfield at home...
