‘Embassy car ram’ suspect is sectioned
A MAN arrested after a car was driven at police outside the Ukrainian embassy has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
The 40-year-old will be taken to hospital for treatment following his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder and criminal damage, Scotland Yard said. A number of parked vehicles were hit by the offending car, including the ambassador Natalia Galibarenko’s, embassy staff said, which was ‘deliberately rammed’.
Officers fired shots at the silver Mercedes after it started towards them upon their arrival on Saturday morning in Holland Park, west London. A Tazer was also used but the suspect was not injured. Police said its inquiries continue and the use of firearms will be investigated.
