Why fresh-faced Susanna quit booze

SUSANNA Reid gave up alcohol after being warned that it could damage her skin.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 49, stopped drinking seven months ago because she was suffering ‘flare-ups and blemishes’ that left ‘red scars’.

She insisted that alcohol hadn’t become a ‘problem’ in her life but said a doctor had explained that her skin problems were down to dilated blood vessels, which could be triggered by drinking.

‘I was concerned because my skin was flushed,’ she told the Sunday Times. ‘I’d tried all manner of creams and washes, but I knew deep down that what was happening to my skin was probably a manifestation of what I was putting into my body.’ The doctor said cutting back on alcohol would not only improve her skin but would also help her lose weight, as she was on the top end of her BMI scale.

The presenter revealed that she had lost ‘a stone and a half’ in just a few months.

‘Good intentions to lose weight and stop drinking only go so far,’ she said. ‘A doctor telling you to stop is a huge motivator.’

The mother-of-three added: ‘ Seven months on my skin isn’t perfect but it’s clearer. And so is my head. I am sleeping better.’ But Miss Reid, currently in a relationship with Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish, admitted that sobriety had its downside, revealing that she was stood up on a date ‘because the guy discovered I don’t drink’.
