TOUR CLASH MEANS ELTON WILL MISS CUP FINAL

-

AN UNFORTUNATE clash of dates means Sir Elton John is unlikely to be at Wembley when his beloved Watford contest the FA Cup final against Manchester City next month. Sir Elton (above), Watford’s honorary life president, is playing the Copenhagen Royal Arena on Saturday May 18 as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. The 16,000-seat arena is sold out, with tickets going on secondary resale sites for up to £800 a pair. The gig is due to start at 7pm UK time — just after the FA Cup final finishes if it is won in 90 minutes — meaning a last-minute dash to Denmark is surely out of the question. Sir Elton, 72, is still heavily involved with the club he served as chairman and maintains a detailed knowledge of English football. He is in regular contact with Watford bosses and will even recommend players in lower leagues for club scouts to cast their eye over. He emailed Watford striker Troy Deeney last week to congratulate him on reaching the FA Cup final, 35 years after Sir Elton’s tears at Wembley during Watford’s defeat by Everton. It will be quite a week for the singer, whatever happens against City: the biopic of his life, Rocketman, is due to be released in UK cinemas on May 24.
