Waiting for a donor

-

I WAS delighted to read about the father donating a kidney to his fouryear-old son (Mail).

But i was unhappy that John Fisher, chairman of the charity Transplant and Beyond, described life on dialysis as horrendous.

Over 20 years, i have suffered kidney failure three times, have had two transplants and been on dialysis for three periods of time.

i have been back on dialysis for 15 months and am well looked after by the nursing staff.

i walk miles every week, do a Pilates class, volunteer for the national Trust and look after my garden.

i agree a transplant is the best option, but you can have a good life on dialysis — it’s much better than the alternative.
