Gone for a Burton
I SHARE reader Steve Mitchell’s fond memories of Burton’s Potato Puffs (Letters), which were left out of the list of the nation’s favourite crisps.
As a child in the Sixties, I enjoyed this pillow- shaped snack for morning break at primary school. They cost 2d a packet and I spent the rest of my 3d-a-day lunch money on a Jammie Dodger.
Burton’s made Cheesettes, oval- shaped cheese biscuits with a good sprinkling of salt.
On Fridays, we had Kunzle Cakes — chocolate cups filled with jelly, sponge and buttercream, topped with a giant chocolate button.
These were prohibitively expensive, but our neighbour worked at the local cake factory and brought home imperfect ones.
JANE GLENN, Solihull, W. Mids. I REMEMBER Burton’s Potato Puffs on sale in the school tuck shop. Presenter Sarah Kennedy mounted a campaign to bring back Kunzle Cakes — I wish someone would do the same for Potato Puffs. Mrs PATRICIA BAYLEY, Southampton, Hants.
