Suarez’s groin injury puts future in doubt

- EXCLUSIVE By ADAM CRAFTON

DENIS SUAREZ’S future at Arsenal is in further jeopardy after it emerged he is being dogged by a persistent groin injury. Suarez, 25, who signed on loan from Barcelona in January, has only made six substitute appearances so far, playing just 95 minutes. The Spaniard’s last showing was in the 2-0 victory over Manchester United on March 10.

Sportsmail understands Suarez has been hampered by pain in recent training sessions and Arsenal’s physiotherapists are suggesting he reduces his role in training to see if the inflammation can be managed better. The pain is along the pubic bone and there are fears it may be a sports hernia, but Suarez is keen to see if a short period of rest will resolve the problem. It is possible to play through the injury under duress but Suarez is desperate to be fully fit to break into the Arsenal team for their Premier League run-in and final Europa League matches this season. Suarez turned down major Spanish clubs in January after Emery convinced him to move to London. Arsenal have an option to sign Suarez permanently this summer for over £20million but such a move is in serious doubt for both club and player after he received such a small amount of game time.
