Tiger Woods underwent three operations to correct disc problems in his lower spine but his fourth surgery, performed by Dr Richard Guyer of the Texas Back Institute, was a spinal fusion. Here’s how it happened…
1 The procedure begins with a small incision in the lower abdomen.
2 The damaged disc is removed.
3 A plastic implant is then placed between the two bones.
4 The screws are placed into the bones above and below to anchor the implant into place.
5 That fuses sections of the spine back together and alleviates pain.
