MY OTHER HANDBAG IS TWO MORE HANDBAGS!

After Chanel’s bonkers ‘saddle bags’, the women with so much clobber they’ve gone even further

-

eVERYONE knows a woman’s bag is much more than a convenient place to store ‘ stuff ’ when going from A to B. It’s body armour, a fashion statement, a comforter, your personal assistant and best friend, all in one.

But while over the past decade, one It bag was all anyone wanted, there’s now a new way to show off: carrying multiple bags. It’s no wonder Chanel has just brought out its new double bags, or ‘side-packs’. Costing from £3,260 to £6,800, they are worn with one on each hip, like a horse’s saddle bags.

It’s a look Samantha Cameron has sported for years — she’s often seen with a bevy of stylish bags on her arms.

Of course, there’s practical reasoning behind this seemingly showy behaviour. These days, many of us busy women leave home early and get back late, so we need to take everything we need for the day with us.

Rather than carrying one backbreaking tote, it makes sense to arrange things into various bags, taking you from the gym, to the office, to post-work drinks and dinner.

It also keeps us in balance, as most of us favour one side — which can lead to curvature of the spine or a muscle imbalance along the neck and shoulders.

But, armed with multiple bags, just what do you keep in them?

ALICE SMELLIE spoke to four women who wouldn’t dream of carrying fewer than three bags, and got them to spill all . ..
