A stuffed bag is so unstylish!
Meg Randell, 29, is head of fashion at Chiswick auctions and lives in Hammersmith, West london, with her boyfriend, an art expert. I SPEND a lot of my time sourcing and authenticating vintage designer items for auction. On the whole, this is all London-based, with the odd foray into the home counties. Nonetheless, I carry three bags for the quick Tube ride into work every morning.
There’s my lovely Gucci bamboo backpack, where I keep the basics: iPhone, Kindle and keys. Next is my green Louis Vuitton handbag for items I may need, such as a cardigan, scarf, inhaler, hair brush and gloves.
Finally, I always take either my beloved Chanel shopping tote or a Louis Vuitton clutch. I often attend evening events and don’t want to go with a rucksack — even if it is Gucci.
If I go to the theatre or a drinks party, I can check my basics into the cloakroom, and carry my lipstick and iPhone in my clutch.
In total, the bags probably cost £1,000 and weigh about 3kg when full. They are my most treasured possessions — I have about six designer ones.
They may be expensive, but they were all secondhand. They will keep their value, so if I want to sell any of them I will get my money back and, in some cases, I will even make a profit.
I may wear jeans and shirts a great deal, but I carry Chanel and Gucci on one shoulder, and Louis Vuitton on the other, showing I can be comfortable and glamorous at the same time. The threehandbag trend is great — there’s nothing less stylish than an overflowing bag.
