CAROL’S CUT-OUT-AND-KEEP GUIDE TO FUTOSHIKI

-

THE RULES OF FUTOSHIKI

FILL the 25 cells with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Each number can appear only once in each horizontal row and vertical column.

JARGON BUSTER

SOME cells have an arrow-like symbol beside them. This indicates whether a number is ‘greater than’ (>) or ‘less than’ (<) the number in the adjacent cell.

These V-shaped signs are mathematical symbols: 4 is bigger than 3 so ‘4 > 3’. And 1 is smaller than 5 so ‘1 < 5’. Some people call them chevrons or angle brackets but I simply call them greater than (>) and less than (<). In Futoshiki, they can point up and down, too.
