CAROL’S TIPS

-

There are no zeroes in Futoshiki. So where you see a ‘greater than’ sign (>), you know that cell can’t contain a 1 ... because 1 isn’t greater than anything. Similarly, a cell with a ‘less than’ sign (<) can’t contain a 5, because 5 is the highest number in the grid. If you’re muddling up the two signs, think of the ‘greater than’ symbol as the open mouth of a hungry crocodile. It wants to eat more, so jaws apart means larger... whichever way it is facing. Look out for chains of these symbols. Cells connected by (>) contain a string of numbers that get progressively smaller — but not necessarily in a simple sequence, so they might be 5, 3, 2, 1 missing a 4.
