Damaged by divorce

-

HOW sad that the Government is to introduce quickie divorce. I have been married for 55 years, and all my seven daughters have been married for 15 to 30 years.

If you asked us what makes a successful marriage, we’d say: ‘Accept that no one’s perfect. There’s only one captain of a ship. Marriage takes two good givers. Treat him like a king and he will treat you like a queen.’

Don’t go into a marriage looking for what you can get out of it, but what you can put in. You have to change if you want it to work. Marriage is the best way for children to have a secure upbringing. There’s no problem that can’t be solved, even adultery.

Women I know who have divorced say it was the worst mistake they ever made. They have been left on their own to bring up their children while also having to work. They feel so lonely and the effect it’s had on their children is devastating. GILLIAN MILLER,
