Landlord blues
I AM a residential landlord who is concerned about the announcement of a major housing shake-up (Mail).
The 1988 Housing Act gave wouldbe landlords the guarantee of possession. Before then, there were very few private rentals. Now we have more than ten million, which shows good legislation benefits everyone.
Why does the Government want to take a step backwards? If I am a tenant and enter into an agreement for two years, why should I not be expected to move out after the contract ends?
This attack on private landlords will only result in a reduced number of properties available for letting.
PAUL PEARSON, address supplied. I’M IN the process of evicting a tenant who has not paid rent for three months.
After this experience, I plan to sell the property, thus adding to the lack of private rental properties.
The Government should think through the implications before changing the law.
HENRY PARTRIDGE, York. THE Government says no-fault evictions over tenancy agreements are unfair. However, last week it trumpeted no-fault divorce plans.
