Should Shamima Begum be granted legal aid?

-

HOW disgusting that Shamima Begum has been granted legal aid to challenge the removal of her citizenship (Mail). It is astonishing taxpayers have to fund such cases, with solicitors the beneficiaries. We’re told Ms Begum’s case is complex — which I challenge — and could take years to resolve. Legal aid is refused to ordinary families, but it seems there is always enough to defend terrorists. The solicitors who specialise in these cases must be rubbing their hands as the gravy train rolls on.

IAN VERDON, Watford, Herts.

I HOPE no one is fooled by the claim Ms Begum is getting money to fight her case, as it is the ambulancechasing lawyers who will get the cash.

H. McGEE, Bognor Regis, W. Sussex.

I CAN’T get worked up about the decision to grant the Jihadi bride legal aid, as our legal system is so pathetic that this was always on the cards. I expect Julian Assange will be next in line.

S. H. BROUGH, Egremont, Cumbria. HOW does Shamima Begum qualify for legal aid when she has been stripped of her British citizenship? C. GOODALL, Portsmouth.

THOSE who have granted legal aid to Ms Begum should be made to pay it from their own pockets.

D. W. G. HANNS, Fareham, Hants. GIVE Ms Begum back her passport. The courts will eventually allow this, so act now and stop a fortune in fees going to Yuman Rites shysters.

MARTIN SHARP, London SE2.

SHOULD Shamima Begum be allowed to return to the UK? I know, let’s have a referendum.

MICK WHEELER, Writtle, Essex. TELL Ms Begum there’s a spare room in the Ecuadorian Embassy. Name and address supplied.
