- BY HELEN McGINN

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK Famille Perrin Les Cardinaux Cotes du Rhone, £8 (normally £10), Co-op

MADE by one of the Rhone’s most famous family producers, this is a classic southern blend of grapes, including spicy Syrah and juicy Grenache.

WHITE WINE Friuli Sauvignon Blanc, £9, Marks & Spencer

THE relatively cool region of Friuli is tucked in the northeastern tip of Italy’s bootshaped country.

The Sauvignon Blanc grape loves it here, producing fresh aromatic wines such as this one, full of lemon fruit flavours along with a generous hint of gooseberry. Super-refreshing.

FOOD PAIRING: Seafood pasta.

RED WINE Valley Way Barossa Shiraz, £7.99, Aldi

IF YOU like your red wines on the juicy side, this is a bargain from South Australia’s Barossa Valley. Jam-packed with ripe, bright, blackcurrant flavours and a gentle touch of oak, it’s velvet-soft, with just the right amount of tannins.

FOOD PAIRING: Lamb kebabs.

GIN Chapel Down Pinot Noir Gin, £33.99, thedrinkshop.com

THIS is a gorgeous pale-pink gin made from distilled Pinot Noir grapes by the Kent-based Chapel Down. Infused with rose buds and dried red fruits, it has a fabulous floral aroma, along with a reassuring juniper hit.

FOOD PAIRING: Just good tonic water — and plenty of ice!
