Get a boost as a charity trustee

BECOMING a charity trustee can boost your career. Trustees sit on the boards of charities to help promote their aims and set strategy.

‘Charities are especially looking for young people, women, and people from ethnic minority background­s,’ says Penny Wilson from Getting On Board, a charity that helps charities recruit trustees.

Law graduate Samir Manek, 29, is a trustee with The Advocacy Academy, which supports young people to develop the skills and confidence to make a difference.

‘ Being a trustee develops your leadership, decision-making and critical-thinking skills,’ says Samir.

Charities are looking for trustees with legal, financial, planning, Average commitment is 30 hours a year. You are not paid, but usually get expenses.

Research by Getting On Board and Rathbones Investment Management shows that 96 per cent of trustees say they learned new skills that enhanced their CVs.
