ASOS FOUNDER IN £15m SHARE SALE

- by Hannah Uttley

ASOS co-founder Nick Robertson has pocketed £15.3m after selling 410,000 shares at 372p each.

Despite the huge sell-off, he still has a 5.5pc stake in the online fashion firm, worth £178.5m.

Robertson, 51, ( pictured) co-founded Asos in 2000 with his business partners Andrew Regan and Quentin Griffiths, and served as chief executive of the business until 2015.

A year later he was forced to sell £70m worth of shares to fund the divorce settlement with his ex-wife, Janine.

The payout was equivalent to almost a third of Robertson’s £220m net worth at the time.

According to The Sunday Times Rich List, Robertson is now worth £372m. In 2011 he was awarded an OBE for services to fashion retailing.

Nick Beighton took the reins from Robertson in 2015 after joining Asos as chief financial officer six years earlier. Robertson has been a non-executive director at the business since stepping down.

The sale comes after Asos’s halfyear profits plunged 87pc to £4m.

Shares have tumbled by 38pc over the past year amid investor concerns that the management is struggling to run the business amid a major overseas expansion.

Asos shares increased 3.4pc, or 128p, to 3889p yesterday.
