You may have racing stripes, but I’m going to win by a neck!

-

YOU’D get long odds on seeing a race like this every day.

A young giraffe and zebra stage their own version of the novice stakes as they gallop side by side across their enclosure.

The hilarious episode was spotted by visitors to Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, where a herd of Grant’s zebra share space with a group of Rothschild’s giraffes. In the end the giraffe, 15-month-old Rudy, beat zebra Iebe by a neck.

Keeper Ian Turner said: ‘It was quite a sight to see them galloping across the reserve. As a stallion, Iebe is looking to show off his speed. However, it looks like he met his match with this young giraffe.’
