Not so sunny side of the Easter Bunny . . .

- Julie McGuire, Beeston, Notts.

It’s official — Santa’s in trouble, And it’s not in the least bit funny, For his arch enemy is our beloved Fluffy Easter Bunny. The creature we know and love, As a picture of sweetness and light, Generously handing out eggs, Is baying for a full-on fight. He’s hatched a plot so subtle, How low can a bunny go? Eggs in the shops by January, And stealing Santa’s snow! Easter hops about like a rabbit, And the statistics are quite right, When it lands in March, not April, It’s more likely than Christmas to be white. But the Bunny keeps us guessing, Should we pull our shorts from the drawer? A BBQ on the patio, perhaps, Who could ask for more? Sunning ourselves in the garden, Watching the daffodils sway, As the kids dash around on an egg hunt, So hard they’ll be searching till May! Or a flick of the Bunny’s coin, Makes it all feel like a con. Keep your thermals and woollies out, Because winter still hangs on. But watch out wicked Easter Bunny, For Brexit might steal your thunder. All focus is on our country’s fate, What on Earth will happen, we wonder? Still, whatever the chaos around us, And politics really gets on our wick. One thing remains a certainty, We’ll all eat chocolate ‘till we’re sick!
