Airport demo ends in tears

-

THEY vowed to ‘shut down’ Heathrow and cause travel chaos for thousands on one of the airport’s busiest days of the year.

But it ended in tears when only a handful of teenage Extinction Rebellion protesters turned up – and were quickly threatened with arrest.

There were about 20 rebels, many under the age of 17, holding a banner at a roundabout near the airport and they were outnumbered two-to-one by police, who ensured they did not disrupt traffic. Some broke down in tears when told they could be arrested for the protest.

The group even attracted sympathy from Heathrow’s management staff, who had them moved into a shady area to avoid the risk of sunburn.

After two hours on the pavement, the teenagers each had an ice cream and called it a day.
