Voter cuts off finger after poll blunder

-

AN INDIAN man chopped off his index finger in anguish after voting for the wrong party in the country’s ongoing general election.

Pawan Kumar said he was confused by the symbols on the electronic voting machine and voted for prime minister Narendra Modi’s party instead of its regional rival in Uttar Pradesh state.

Distraught, Mr Kumar chopped off the first finger of his left hand with a meat cleaver when he got home. Votes are cast electronically, but a voter’s index finger is marked with ink after they cast ballots to ensure they do not vote again.

Explaining his actions, Mr Kumar said every time he saw his ink-marked finger he felt angry.
