Super Mario is last-gasp saviour

- ADAM SHERGOLD

NORWiCh have turned late goals in to so much of an art form this season that you sit at Carrow Road expecting them. This time it was a perfectly placed free-kick by Mario Vrancic in the seventh minute of injury time that took them a step closer to the Premier League. Five points clear of thirdplaced Leeds United with three games to play, Daniel Farke’s side are nearly there. But boy did they make hard work of it here. Wednesday had come within seconds of victory with a combination of finesse and fortune but Norwich could seal promotion with a win at stoke on Monday. Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, a late stand-in when Keiren Westwood was injured in the warm-up, was lucky to escape with just a yellow card when he handled outside his area in the ninth minute. Marco stiepermann drilled home from the edge of the box 10 minutes later to reward Norwich for a bright opening. But a boisterous crowd was left awestruck when Fernando Forestieri thundered home an unstoppable shot from 35 yards after 33 minutes. And Wednesday led when steven Fletcher bundled home Liam Palmer’s cross with what appeared to be his hand. But Vrancic saved the day. The Bosnian said: ‘i practise for these moments. it’s one of the biggest moments of the season.’
