Secret ingredient in trendy new facial? Hens’ eggs!

- By Liz Hull

SOME like them scrambled, some like them fried. Some like them poached on a bed of avocado and toast.

But the more refined among us will know the trendiest way to like your eggs is, of course, smeared on your face.

The latest miracle anti-ageing cream – made from egg white and yolk extract – has hit the high street after seeing huge success abroad. Scientists say hens’ eggs, containing rich oils and proteins, are the ideal ingredient for moisturising skin, smoothing wrinkles and clearing blackheads.

And the membranes in their shells even contain collagen – the elastic substance that naturally occurs in the skin and keeps it looking plump. Korean brand Too Cool For School realised the egg’s potential, and has seen its range of products – costing from £6.50 for an Egg Cream Mask to £29.50 for an egg yolk all-in- one moisturiser – become the latest global beauty craze.

The products had a waiting list of around 9,000 UK customers before going on sale in Boots last week, while the Egg Cream Mask is so popular in the US and Asia that one is purchased every ten seconds.

Young Kim, of Too Cool For School, said: ‘Applying egg raw can be very messy and smelly, so we use extracts which are safer because they can be used by everyone.’

She added that the collagen from the shell membranes gives its Egg Mellow Cream ‘a very unique texture’.
