April 22, 1940 EVACUEE children from Stepney, East London, who are staying in Windsor Great Park, sent a special present to Princess Elizabeth at Royal Lodge for her 14th birthday. It was a handbag with Princess Elizabeth’s initials worked on it. The children have been saving for the gift since they went to tea with the Princess at Royal Lodge recently. April 22, 1983 A FAMILIAR face drops in at the Rovers Return on Coronation Street. Hollywood star Dustin Hoffman had a drink yesterday with Elsie Tanner, one of the regulars in Britain’s favourite TV programme. Pat Phoenix (pictured with him) and the rest of the Street are used to playing host to big names. Gandhi star Ben Kingsley had a minor part in the Street 17 years ago.

One of his Playboy model girlfriend­s said Nicholson — dubbed ‘The Great Seducer’ by Rolling Stone magazine — had peanut butter and jam sandwiches in bed ‘to keep his strength up’. DONALD TUSK, 62. The European Council president and former Polish prime minister hit the headlines in February when he said there was ‘a special place in hell for those who promoted Brexit without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely’. Before the election of U.S. President Trump, he joked that his wife had said: ‘One Donald is more than enough.’

GLEN CAMPBELL (19362017). The U. S. country music star ( right) best known for hits Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman, was born in poverty as one of 12 children, but went on to sell more than 50 million albums. His battle with Alzheimer’s was chronicled in the 2014 documentar­y Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. GEORGE COLE (1925-2015). The Londonborn actor played used car dealer Arthur Daley in ITV’s Minder — known for catchphras­es ‘nice little earner’ and ‘er indoors’ — and Flash Harry in the St Trinian’s films. He appeared in more than 60 movies, alongside stars including Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Collins and Julia Roberts.
