FABIO FOGNINI became the first Italian to win an ATP Masters 1000 title with a straight-sets victory over Dusan Lajovic in Monte Carlo. The 31-year-old followed up his surprise win over Rafael Nadal with a 6-3, 6-4 success on the red clay at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. Fognini rounded off a memorable week, which also included wins over top-10 seeds Alex Zverev and Borna Coric. ‘I’m really, really happy,’ Fognini said. ‘He (Lajovic) has my excoach and I knew it was going to be really tough, a lot of running. It’s an incredible achievemen­t.’

PAKISTAN’S Shadab Khan will miss next month’s Twenty20 and five-match one-day series with England due to illness. Fellow leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who has 23 wickets in 24 ODIs, will replace him. The series begins on May 5 with the Twenty20 at Cardiff. The first ODI is at the Oval on May 8.
