OLE: I’M SORRY
United boss apologises after Everton humiliation
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER issued a grovelling apology to Manchester United fans after his side were thumped 4-0 at Everton yesterday. Everton outclassed, outfought and outran United at Goodison Park as Solskjaer’s top-four hopes took a humiliating hit. ‘We have to apologise to the fans because they were absolutely fantastic,’ Solskjaer said. ‘That performance is not good enough for a United team, from me down to the players. ‘We let the fans down, we let the club down. That performance is difficult to describe because it was so bad.’ The most stinging criticism came from former United defender Gary Neville. ‘It’s embarrassing,’ he said. ‘I’m furious. That performance today was rancid.’ United have the chance to bounce back when they face title challengers and bitter rivals Manchester City on Wednesday. But Solskjaer warned that United need a clearout, saying: ‘ I’m going to be successful here and there are players in there who won’t be part of that team.’ Asked if his beaten players were hurting, Solskjaer admitted: ‘I don’t know.’
