Raced to death
IT IS not correct to state that racehorses are killed only in rare cases ( Letters). The website
horsedeathwatch.com lists by name, date, course and injury the 1,897 horses that have been killed in the past 13 years, most of them from broken legs while jumping. I do not call that rare or sport. Horses may love to gallop, but naturally wouldn’t be jumping fences the size of those in the Grand National, at high speed or with 40 horses surrounding them on all sides, blocking their path or bringing them down accidentally.
We hear about the horses who die in high-profile races at Aintree or Cheltenham, but they are dying every week at racecourses all over the country.
I do ride, but I am one of many who believe horse-racing is cruel.
