Old-fashioned manners

-

HOW I agree with Dr Scurr’s advice about the right way to address elderly patients in hospital (Good Health). My mother was admitted to Gloucester hospital for her final few days at the age of 88.

Her name was Helen Elizabeth and the hospital staff took it upon themselves to call her Helen.

Mother was known as Bessie to her contemporaries, but to everyone else she was Mrs Harris, even to her next-door neighbour, whom she had known for 30 years.

Mrs D. FRY, Ashbourne, Derbys.
