Tesla robot taxi service

ELON Musk has vowed to launch a Tesla robot taxi service next year.

The billionair­e chief executive said more than 1m self-driving vehicles could be on the roads by the middle of 2020, in a challenge to taxi app services Uber and Lyft.

The vehicles will have onboard computers that can be updated remotely. Owners would make their car available for hire when they were not using it themselves, controllin­g it via a smartphone app.

Musk claimed customers stood to make around £23,000 per year from renting out their cars, with Tesla taking a share of 25pc to 30pc.
