Climate protesters call halt to their blockades
ECO-WARRIORS last night called off the demonstrations which have paralysed London for ten days.
Left-wing pressure group Extinction Rebellion pledged to ‘voluntarily’ end its blockades of Marble Arch and Parliament Square at 5pm today.
Environment Secretary Michael Gove has agreed to meet members of the group.
Extinction Rebellion said yesterday: ‘We will leave the physical locations but a space for truth-telling has been opened up in the world.’
The protesters’ tactics have been praised by shadow home secretary Diane Abbott and other Labour MPs. She addressed activists in Parliament Square yesterday, telling them they had done ‘an amazing job’.
Mr Gove told an event in Westminster: ‘I will be talking to them later this week.’
