Amber Rudd’s ex Kwasi to wed Cheltenham Ladies’ old girl

-

He romanced former Home Secretary amber rudd in a protracted, on-off affair.

and now, I can disclose, old etonian government minister Kwasi Kwarteng, sometimes described as the ‘black Boris’, is to marry someone apparently utterly untainted by the ineptitude of Westminster — blonde city lawyer Harriet edwards.

‘Kwasi proposed at the weekend at Helen’s mother’s house in derbyshire,’ a friend tells me.

Kwarteng’s fiancée, who is in her early 30s, attended cheltenham Ladies’ college, whose illustrious alumnae include the fragrant mary archer, fashionista amanda Wakeley — and amber rudd herself.

‘We’re very happy,’ Kwarteng tells me. ‘We had thought we’d let friends know gently over the course of the week,’ adds the 43-year-old, whose Ghanaian parents came to Britain in the Sixties, ‘but, now it’s a story, fair enough.’

regularly tipped to become the first black Tory cabinet minister, Kwarteng could go all the way to the top. Indeed, one ally has observed that comparisons with Boris Johnson do him a disservice.

They argue that Kwarteng, who stands 6ft 5in and who has three books to his name, as well as coauthoring or contributing to three others, plus a Phd, is ‘twice as big and twice as clever’ as the former Foreign Secretary.

It will certainly do his parliamentary prospects no harm to have Harriet at his side.

after graduating from Trinity college, dublin, in History and modern Languages, she worked for auctioneers christie’s in Geneva and then UBS investment bank in new York, before qualifying as a solicitor. She is now a senior associate at accountancy firm PriceWaterhousecoopers.

There she specialises in advising ‘ individuals and families’ about ‘ succession planning and asset protection’, particularly ‘ family owned businesses’.

doubtless she’ll ensure that the Kwarteng family assets are henceforth cherished with particular care.
