Past in perspective
SHOULD Britain apologise to India for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar?
Every country in the world, including India, has done something in their past for which they now feel ashamed, and Britain is no exception.
I believe it is wrong to take incidents from the past, when circumstances were much different to today, resurrect them into the present and then apply a modern morality. This is irrational and unfair.
I can’t see why a whole nation should apologise for the actions of one over-zealous senior British officer. Should India apologise for the Black Hole of Calcutta and the Cawnpore massacre?
We need to put such unfortunate incidents into perspective as an integral part of a changing history.
